Sturgis

My family and I were planning to visit South Dakota the first week in August. I just realized it is the same week as Sturgis. Will this affect our trip there much? Should we plan on coming another year instead?

As you will read, everyone of us that responded would recommend a different time to visit. Sturgis really is for the avid biker, and you will find high lodging rates with low availability.

If you decide to postpone your trip for another year, be sure to check on the Sturgis dates in advance. You can always find them on-line. The dates for 2010 are out already, although I don%26#39;t remember them off the top of my head.

Visiting South Dakota the first week of August will be very busy. The prices will be higher for lodging but if that doesn%26#39;t bother you, then it should be fine. Sturgis is the main town for bike week but they stay everywhere possible. If you planned your vacation for the later part of the week it seems that the bikers start to thin out.
