Approx. how long does it take to drive through the canyon, not counting stops?
We plan to drive it the same day we visit Hill City %26amp; Deadwood (after 2 days in Keystone).
After going to Devil%26#39;s Tower from Spearfish the following day, we want to stay at either Keystone again (K Bar S Lodge) or possibly Spearfish Canyon Lodge. Will it take too much time to drive through the canyon again just to stay at Spearfish Can. Lodge?

In theory 45 minutes from Deadwood to Spearfish but it is very winding and has lowered speed limits in most places. In reality figure an hour. If you are behind a slow RV or truck there are few or no passing opportunites. Then again, why rush, it%26#39;s beautiful there. Distance wise it is about three times farther than taking 85 to the freeway (and 85 has been rebuilt to be almost like freeway). But the canyon is very scenic and well worth doing. Figure it will cost you an extra 1/2 hour over taking 85...barring really slow traffic. Then again if anyone is prone to motion sickness the frequent turning back and forth might be an issue.
