We will be in Hill city/Mount Rushmore 1st week in May, is the weather usually cold at that time?

You never know. I would not recommend coming to the Black Hills anytime before June 15 without a winter coat. That doesn%26#39;t mean you will wear it. Just means you may be glad you have it.

We were there the last week of May in 2008 and we needed a winter coat, gloves and a hat. We went to the night program at Mt. Rusmore and it was freezing.

Usually, it will be OK. Highs in the 50s. Usually. But on May 2, 2008, we got about a foot of snow. Lead got 4.5 feet.

Thank you all, we will be wearing our winter coats.

We now see that we should have timed our visit for later in the year.

Heck we are going be there the first week of April....but we are from Minnesota...Used to the cold...probably will feel warm to us :)
