Deadwood accommodation

Hello. Can anyone assist with some advice regarding booking accommodation in Deadwood. We (3) will be in Deadwood for 1 night (25 June 09) and my question is, should we pre-book our accommodation? We would need 2 rooms. I have organised a road trip and have booked our accommodation throughout the entire trip but my husband wants us to ';wing'; it in Deadwood. I%26#39;m not sure whether that is a wise thing to do being in the middle of your summer vacation. Deadwood seems to be a small but popular place to visit and I%26#39;d hate to have to drive through to find accommodation elsewhere. Thanks for any assistance.

If you want 2 rooms downtown on Main Street, I would pre-book. Most of the hotels in dowtown Deadwood have a casino on the ground floor and 1-3 floors of rooms above.

Here is a map of Deadwood lodging, with prices.

Deadwood accommodation

Wild Bill Days are the weekend prior to your date. The town is always packed for that and there is a chance some folks will be staying into the week after. I would not want to risk it.

I just checked a favorite place of our there (Hickok%26#39;s Iron Horse Inn) and it is booked up for June 25....as well as for our planned visit date in August. Not a good sign this far in advance. I suspect Deadwood will be very busy this year with people staying closer to home for vacation.

I would not recommend ';winging it.'; Deadwood can get busy, especially when events are planned. We lucked out and didn%26#39;t stay there during a busy time.

Also, the fact you need 2 rooms, I just wouldn%26#39;t risk it.

If you find you are unable to find lodging in Deadwood, you might want to consider staying in Lead. Lead and Deadwood are known as the ';twin cities.'; They join each other, and although options are a bit more limited, Lead does have some basic choices. The Golden Hills Inn is recommended on this site, and we stayed at the Palace Express. The Palace Express was inexpensive, basic lodging that would suffice for one night.

Hello and thank you all so much. We will pre-book and straight away.

Your advice is very much appreciated.
