Change of Plans

Last minute change to my vacation! I had my vacation to Yellowstone planned. To make a long story short, we are now going to Rushmore. I was so excited about Yellowstone, but I think we%26#39;ll have a blast in SD as well. Tentatively, we have reservations at Rushmore Express in Keystone. I haven%26#39;t been able to find a lot of information about the hotel. Does anyone have information on the place?

If not, any other hotels that are highly recommended? I specifically would like a hotel that would appeal to 2 teenagers:-) TV, pool, internet, family suite, that sort of stuff.

Thanks in advance!

Change of Plans

The Black Hills are totally different from Yellowstone, but wonderful in totally different ways. You are going to have a great time.

The Rushmore Express gets pretty good reviews on this site. It%26#39;s the 4th best rated hotel in Keystone. I have no personal experience here, but based on it website, it looks pretty nice. Some hotels have somewhat limited parking, and I%26#39;m not sure if this may be one of them. However, I have read no complaints in this regard on here.

I have personal experience at the Roosevelt Inn in Keystone. It has an indoor pool, family game room, continental breakfast, family suites (limited number), and a great pizzeria on site. I don%26#39;t know how the price compares to the Rushmore Express, but I can say the Roosevelt is worth a look. They have their own parking lot that is pretty spacious for Keystone. Their website is rosyinn.com. Internet rates are available, but you have to ask for them. They don%26#39;t offer them unless you ask.

Good luck!

Change of Plans

Too bad you have to cancel Yellowstone! I know how you feel, we too have had to change our planned Yellowstone trip (going just to Colorado)!

Black Hills is great fun though. Make sure you do either (or both) caves... Jewel Cave Nat Mon and Wind Cave Nat Park. If your teens are into gold panning, try Wade%26#39;s Gold Mill near Hill City!

We plan to do both caves actually, if we have time. Since we aren%26#39;t staying in the parks at Yellowstone, I%26#39;m actually looking for a nicer hotel. I know I%26#39;m not going to get 4 diamond, but something with the amenities already mentioned and a nice comfortable bed to come back to every night. Plush towels that kind of thing. I may be asking a lot and I may not care once we get out there, but we have not taken a family vacation in years and my daughter asked if we could stay at a nicer hotel. And I do mean in YEARS! Does the Roosevelt fit the bill? The Rushmore Express looked nice and seemed to fit the bill.

Sorry to ramble. It%26#39;s been a long couple of weeks at work and I can%26#39;t wait until vacation.

We like the K Bar S Lodge. It is a little nicer than some of the other chain hotels in Keystone but doesn%26#39;t have a pool. The Roosevelt inn looked good also.

Hi Missy,

I looked at the Rushmore Express%26#39; website, and I have to say it looked more plush than the Roosevelt. We really liked the staff at the Roosevelt (although some on this site have not liked them, we had no issues). It looked like the Rushmore Express had granite countertops, which Roosevelt does not have. Actually, the family suite bathroom was pretty small, but since there are only 3 of us, we were ok with it. Also, I would not describe their towels as plush; they were on the thinner side, but passable for us. The property was very clean, which I liked. Some do not like the continental breakfast Roosevelt serves, as it doesn%26#39;t include cereal and a lot of choices, but it was good enough for us.

On Tripadvisor, the Rushmore Express is higher rated than Roosevelt, so keeping that in mind, I think I%26#39;d go for the best price. K Bar S Lodge looks fabulous and is highly rated on this site, but I didn%26#39;t recommend it for you due to the lack of pool. I%26#39;m also not sure if they have family suites.

Have a great vacation, and please let us know where you wind up. I%26#39;d love to hear a review about wherever you stay.

Thanks for all of the advice. We%26#39;ve decided on to keep the reservations at the Rushmore Express. Now I have to plan a loose itinerary.
