I will be traveling in South Dakota at the solstice. I am wondering if anyone knows of any summer solstice celebrations in the Custer area. I%26#39;m looking for something more nature-oriented, or low key. Or a native american celebration, or something akin to that.
Thanks much,
Summer Solstice Celebrations?
Not in that area (by a fair bit) but there used to be something in Hitchcock Park in Mitchell, SD. Still an arts festival there so there may be other date related activities.

There are Native American events at Devils Tower (or Bear Lodge as they call it) in Wyoming for most of the month of June to celebrate the Solstice. The Lakota have a Sun Dance sometime about then.
A bit farther into Wyoming in the Bighorn Mts. is the Bighorn Medicine Wheel. Not sure of there is any formal even there but given the way it lines up on the Solstice it would surprise me if not.

Summer Solstice Celebrations?
Thanks, Sequim. The medicine wheel in Kane looks interesting, but it%26#39;s too far west for us. We%26#39;re coming from the east and arriving that day to meet up w/ some others.
Also, FYI, I checked on the Mitchell Arts Festival, but it looks like it has been canceled b/c of a lack of vendors, etc.
We are coming up from Nebraska, if anyone knows of anything there?
Thanks,
