I know that for the world%26#39;s longest cave - Mammoth Cave in Kentucky - you better have reservations in advance if you want a tour. We even went in February one time and walk-ups were being turned away (no tours spots at all left and they have sixteen different tours!) Is it this way for Jewel and Wind caves? Do I need to get reservations here in advance:

Or can you pretty much get any tour you want right when you walk up?
Cave reservations needed?
It depends on which tour you want. I would recommend reservations for the lantern or the spelunking tours. We have always been able to walk up and get tickets for the other tours, as long as we were there about half an hour ro 15 minutes early. I checked the Wind Cave site, and they do not accept reservations except for organized groups. Check the times for tours, get there about half an hour early, and except for the busiest days, you should be fine. You may have to wait for an hour until the next tour leaves then. If that%26#39;s the case, just take your time exploring the exhibits in the visitor center.
Cave reservations needed?
You will be ok at Wind Cave; for some reason, they seem to offer more tours, and there are definitely more surface activities since it%26#39;s a national park rather than a national monument. However, I would recommend reservations for Jewel Cave. There are no surface activities other than the visitor%26#39;s center, which is quite small. I remember waiting about 2 hours for a tour, but we did visit on a rainy day, which I know didn%26#39;t help matters. I remember our daughter participating in the Jr. Ranger Program, which helped to kill time.
Thanks for your advice.
