Just curious about these two tour bus companies for Mt. Rushmore area. Since we have never been to South Dakota/Mt. Rushmore area, my husband and I are considering taking one of these all-day tours. We are in our 50%26#39;s,we enjoy walking, and we enjoy bus tours. However, I noticed that most of these tours cover about 100 miles and 9 hours...all in one day.
Hmmmmm......has anyone ever taken one of these tours, and if so, is it worth it? Which one did you take, and why? What about reservations? Any other info. on these two companies or on any others is greatly appreciated.
Gray Line Tour Bus vs. Mt. Rushmore Tour Bus
I have a friend that I actually met on this site, and she and her husband took one of these bus tours, as she doesn%26#39;t drive, and she wanted to give her hubby a break to let him sit back and enjoy the sights. They both really enjoyed it and felt it was worth it. I%26#39;m not sure what company she used.
They also drove to the various areas, but they wanted an overview first. For them, it worked out well. For me, well, I%26#39;d rather go it myself, at my own pace, but everyone is different. The fact you both enjoy tours, I think you%26#39;d fare well.
Just as a point of reference, they visited the area for about a week. I%26#39;m not sure how long you will be there, but if it will be a shorter period, you might benefit. However, if you will be there for a while, I%26#39;d consider doing the driving myself. The roads are easy to navigate (some can be windy, but no scary heights!), and the attractions are relatively close to each other.
Whatever you decide, have a great time!
Gray Line Tour Bus vs. Mt. Rushmore Tour Bus
We are in our 50%26#39;s and we did this trip last June. We did all the driving ourselves so that we could stay as long as we wanted and didn%26#39;t feel rushed. The area is rather compact and we enjoyed seeing Mt. Rushmore, Crzy Horse, Custer State Park, Deadwood, etc. We were there for approx. 3 days before we headed for YNP and Cody.
Thank you for your information. We are still undecided about the bus tour, but we are looking forward to our South Dakota adventure more than ever since learning so much here at TA.
